Swerve Strickland Doesn’t Want To Go Back To WWE: ‘I’m Happy With Building AEW’

Swerve Strickland doesn’t want a WWE return.

The WWE released the former AEW Champion in February 2022, despite him impressing in NXT and the main roster.

He was quickly snapped up by AEW, and was built into a main event talent. He held the AEW Tag Team Championships with Keith Lee. Additionally, he went on to defeat Samoa Joe for the AEW Championship earlier this year.

Given the amount of success he has had in AEW, there is no surprise that Swerve Strickland doesn’t want to go back to WWE.

Swerve Strickland appeared on Breakfast Club Power 105.1 FM. He was asked if he would entertain a return to the WWE.

The AEW star rejected the idea. He said he is happy with how his current run in AEW is going. Additionally, he credited Tony Khan with the way he helped him grow in the company.

“I’m happy with building AEW. I’m happy with building myself. AEW is giving me something that I don’t think WWE could ever give me. And I’m really proud of that. I wave the flag proudly because Tony Khan didn’t take a chance on me—he knew what he wanted from me. He put me in the position and said, ‘Now grow,'”

“I was like, ‘Okay, what avenues do I have to grow?’ He said, ‘Whatever you want.’ There were no parameters, no red tape, and I learned how to become a true businessman on top of being a professional wrestler. That’s why the Mogul persona is truly personified in AEW—it literally lets me be my best self, both as a man and a professional.”
