A new report provides an update on The Lucha Brothers (Rey Fenix and Penta El Zero Miedo), as their status has been unclear in recent weeks.
As previously reported, both Fenix’s and Penta’s AEW contracts were set to expire, and they have been expected to sign with WWE. A recent report stated that the duo had not yet signed with WWE.
In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer provided an update on the situation. He wrote that Penta’s deal is up within two months, and he is expected to negotiate with WWE once he is a free agent. Meltzer noted that WWE made him a competitive offer, so that solidified his decision to leave.
As for Rey Fenix, Meltzer wrote that AEW was tacking on injury time to his contract, which was “nearly but not quite one year.” Meltzer stated that Tony Khan made both of them significant offers, but they would not sign a new deal.
The Lucha Brothers have been with AEW since 2019. They are former AEW World Tag Team Champions, and they also held the trios titles. Fenix and Penta held the ROH World Tag Team Championship as well.
WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
