Jey Uso was emotional when celebrating his Intercontinental Championship win on Raw.
The former tag team champion had never won singles gold in the WWE before last night. Since joining the main roster in 2010, Jey Uso had spent most of his time tagging with his brother Jimmy Uso as “The Usos”.
However, his lack of singles success changed on Raw. Uso battled Bron Breakker for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Breakker hadn’t long won the belt from Sami Zayn 51-days prior, and was determined to keep his reign going.
However, a spear and Uso Splash put Bron Breakker away and gave Jey Uso his first singles title in the WWE.
It was an emotional moment, in particular for Jey Uso. He was interviewed in the crowd immediately after the win, and had to wipe his tears away before answering.
Jey Uso was asked how it felt to finally be a singles champion in WWE. He choked back tears, before chanting “I deserve it!”. Uso went on to thank everyone for supporting him, and told all the kids watching to stay in school and listen to their parents.
He then told the crowd to “yeet” if they liked seeing him holding the title.
“Hey, I deserved it. I deserved it!” he chanted. “First of all, I appreciate everyone who’s been on my journey. Yeah, yeah, I’m happy it happened in front of my home state, California. I promise, though, I’m a big believer that hard work will always pay off.”
“Kids, good grades! Listen to your parents, say your prayers, and I swear your dreams will come true. Just like mine did—your new Intercontinental Champion! And if you’re down with Jey Uso being the new IC Champ, let me hear you say ‘yeet!'” The new WWE Intercontinental Champion added.
