Matt Riddle says that if CM Punk can come back to WWE, everything can be forgiven.
Riddle’s turbulent WWE run ended when the company released him in September 2023. He has since opened up about how he failed multiple drug tests for cocaine during his time with the company, among other issues. In recent months, Riddle has returned to MLW and cemented his status as one of their top stars.
Speaking with Steven Muelhausen for The Takedown on SI, Matt Riddle was asked about potentially returning to WWE.
“The chances of me going back, I think they’re extremely high,” Riddle said. “If CM Punk, who filed a lawsuit against WWE, and then raked them through the mud for a decade, then goes to the competition, I’ll tell you this, if he can do that, everything can be forgiven. I know I wasn’t the easiest to work with at times, [and] I think the door is always open.
“I think the longer I’m away, the harder I work, and the more I do, the more likely I could come back. But I’ll also say this, if I never go back ever again, and they never talk to me again, I’ll be ok with that.”
Matt Riddle On His Growth
Riddle recently reflected on how much he has changed since he left WWE. Speaking with Joseph Staszewski of the New York Post, he stated that he was in a different place.
“I’m in a way different place,” Riddle said. “I feel way better. It’s hard to explain because most people think, ‘Oh you’re there, it must be great.’ Professionally my life was awesome. Personally, my life was in shambles. You lose your family. You lose this, that and you’re trying to rebuild anything and you don’t have time to.”
