Sonjay Dutt Undergoes Reverse Total Shoulder Replacement

Sonjay Dutt could be out for a while after undergoing major shoulder surgery.

Dutt has been effectively retired since 2017, having ceased wrestling full-time for TNA. He moved to a backstage role, joining the WWE in 2019 as a producer. Dutt left WWE and joined AEW in 2021, working backstage before being paired with Jay Lethal, Jeff Jarrett and Satnam Singh on television.

Despite wrestling twice for AEW, Sonjay Dutt has no intention of returning to the ring as a wrestler. That is lucky, as it doesn’t look like he’ll have much choice in the matter.

On Twitter, Sonjay Dutt revealed he has undergone surgery to replace his shoulder. After twenty years of struggles, he underwent a reverse total shoulder replacement.

This is where a plastic cup and metal ball are inserted into the shoulder. This mimics the movement of a healthy shoulder and should help fix the issues Sonjay Dutt is suffering from.

He wrote on Twitter that he has started his “journey to get fixed”. Sonjay Dutt is excited for his future, but warned that recovering will be extremely taxing, both physically and mentally.

“After dealing with a myriad of shoulder issues for the better part of the last 2 decades, I started my journey to get fixed. Last wk, I underwent surgery, receiving a reverse total shoulder replacement. Been extremely taxing mentally/physically, but I’m so excited for my future!”

Dutt’s last match was an eight-man tag match on the February 15, 2023 episode of AEW Dynamite.

Sonjay Dutt Was Lucky And Blessed To Achieve His Dream As A Professional Wrestler

Earlier this year, Sonjay Dutt claimed he was “lucky and blessed” to achieve his dream of being a professional wrestler.

The AEW star revealed on Twitter that his dream as a child was to be a wrestler. As he managed to achieve that, he seems himself as very lucky indeed.

“All I ever wanted to do growing up was become a professional wrestler. And I was lucky to achieve that dream and so much more. Blessed.”
