Sami Zayn: The Significance Of Sharing The Ring With Bret Hart On Raw Is Not Lost On Me

Sami Zayn got emotional when talking about sharing the ring with Bret Hart on Raw.

The Hitman appeared on Raw for the first time since 2015. Hart appeared in the ring with Sami Zayn and Gunther, as they built up to a World Heavyweight Championship match in the future.

Fittingly, the last time Bret Hart was on Raw was to announce Sami Zayn’s debut. He introduced Zayn, as part of John Cena’s US Open Challenge, in front of a packed Montreal crowd back in 2015.

Sami Zayn spoke about sharing the ring with Bret Hart in a backstage interview with WWE on Twitter. He revealed he was emotional, and declared Bret Hart to be his childhood hero. He noted the significance of the meeting being in Calgary, adding that the WWE Hall of Famer inspired him to become the next Canadian World Champion.

This ended in him sending a warning to Gunther, signalling the end of his World Heavyweight Championship reign.

“You actually caught me at a really strange time, because I’m feeling really emotional, to be honest.” Sami Zayn said. “I’m wearing this jersey. Not because I’m a Flames fan, everyone knows I’m a Canadians guy. But to honor Johnny Gaudreau who tragically passed away. I don’t know, it just makes you think about the time you have here and what you do with it”

“To be able to share the ring with my— I said that stuff in the ring, but it’s true—he was my hero growing up. To share the ring with him in Calgary, the significance, is not lost on me. So I’m in a really strange headspace, but listening to him talk kind of lit a fire under me. To hear him talk about what it meant to be a champion, and a Canadian Champion.”

“Listening to him, I realized we haven’t had that in a long time and I want it to be me. I want to honor his legacy, I want to honor the template he laid out for guys like me. So, Gunther has got something that, as far as I’m concerned, is on borrowed time. Because I’m coming. I’m coming for the World Heavyweight Championship.” Sami Zayn added.
