CM Punk‘s longtime friend and trainer Ace Steel recently opened up about Punk’s return to WWE.
CM Punk previously left wrestling in 2014. He later returned to the business when he signed with AEW in 2021. His turbulent run there ended with his release in September 2023. Punk then returned to WWE in November 2023. Though an injury derailed his comeback, he has since regained his spot as one of WWE’s top stars.
Speaking on the Huge Pop podcast, Ace Steel discussed CM Punk’s return to WWE. (H/t Andrew Thompson of POST Wrestling),
“(CM) Punk is just loving all of it,” Ace Steel said. “When he comes down to visit me and he says, ‘The kids ask me to come down to the Performance Center,’ I said, ‘I know what you’re doing. I see you all the time. Go have fun.’ This is what his return to wrestling was supposed to be. This is what it was supposed to be.
“Him to walk in, he’s changing in the locker room. He doesn’t want an extra locker room, he doesn’t want to sit apart from everybody. He wants to be in the mix and with the people and answering questions when they’re asked of him. It’s just great for him. It’s just opened him back up to — because I said this before when he was out of wrestling and I would get asked on a podcast and like, he loves wrestling.”
CM Punk is set to appear on the September 16 episode of WWE RAW. WrestleZone will have coverage of the show as it airs on Monday.
