Ricochet On Joining AEW: I Needed Some Gas To Rekindle The Fire, AEW Is The Gas Can

Ricochet wants to rekindle his passion in AEW.

Following his departure from WWE, the former WWE Intercontinental Champion debuted at AEW All In. He then officially signed with the company. Ricochet went on to defeat Kyle Fletcher on the August 28 episode of AEW Dynamite.

Speaking on The Masked Man Show, Ricochet discussed joining AEW. He emphasized how he wanted to be able to rekindle his passion, and he believed AEW would enable him to do so. (H/t Faden Cloete of Wrestling Inc. for the transcription)

“Being able to just rekindle that love, rekindle that passion, rekindle that love that I started doing it 21 years ago, for, you know what I mean?” Ricochet said. He also said that he wants to go back to the roots of his career, and simply open up that side of his life again. Ricochet noted that the passion has never left, but that it needed to relight inside of him again. “The fire was still there, just, I needed some gas to throw in that fire to rekindle that fire, you know, and I think AEW is that gas can.”

Ricochet On His Fresh Start

In a previous interview, Ricochet noted that he plateaued in WWE. Speaking with Steven Muelhausen for The Takedown on SI, he expressed his excitement about his AEW debut and highlighted how it was a new environment.

I think it was just a new environment. I’ve not been doing the same thing, but I’ve kind of, I guess, maybe plateaued or something, I think, for the last couple of years. It’s a change of environment, a change of scenery, a change of basically everything that I’ve been doing for the last couple of years. You’re going to feel that way. You will feel that way whether you’re here, there, or anywhere. But I’m sure the first time I go to Japan, I’m going to feel that I’m going to feel that way. The first time I go somewhere else, it will be exciting.”
