Report: WWE To Announce Return Of Saturday Night’s Main Event NBC Special

WWE is reportedly set to announce the return of Saturday Night’s Main Event as a television special soon.

On September 5, WrestleVotes reported that WWE is set to announce a live primetime special on NBC in the next few days. The report noted that there was some speculation about a Saturday night in December. WWE has not had a primetime NBC special since 2008.

In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer provided a follow-up. He wrote that WWE’s deal to bring SmackDown back to USA Network included four primetime specials per year on NBC. He cited WWE sources who said that the return of Saturday Night’s Main Event would be announced very soon. (H/t Joseph Currier of F4WOnline.com)

Saturday Night’s Main Event initially ran from 1985-1982. It was brought back from 2006-2008. WWE has used the name for live events on Saturdays in recent years.

SmackDown will return to USA Network on September 13; WWE previously signed a five-year deal with NBCUniversal. The company will start holding four primetime specials on NBC per year in the 2024-2025 television season. WWE President Nick Khan commented on the deal in the official announcement.

“NBCUniversal has been a tremendous partner of WWE for decades,” Khan said. “We are excited to extend this longstanding relationship by bringing SmackDown to USA Network on Friday nights and look forward to debuting multiple WWE special events annually on NBC.”

WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
