Cody Rhodes discusses defeating Kevin Owens at WWE Bash in Berlin and comments on their friendship.
At WWE Bash in Berlin, Cody Rhodes defeated Kevin Owens to retain the Undisputed WWE Championship. Despite some teases, Owens did not turn on Rhodes, and they remained friends.
Speaking on the WWE Bash in Berlin Post-Show, Cody Rhodes was asked about his friendship with Kevin Owens coming out of the match. He said that Owens not turning on him spoke to the strength of their friendship.
“I think a lot of people who watch a good chunk of pro wrestling probably could have called, ‘Oh, Kevin’s turning Cody. That’s obvious as it gets.’ It speaks to the strength of our relationship, Kevin and I’s relationship, last night’s promo on SmackDown done into it a little further, it’s incredibly deep, incredibly complex, I’ve never told him this before, but I often feel like I’m chasing behind him. Again, when he showed up on the scene, he’s picking fights with John Cena and the top stars. I was still painting my face and just so far behind the eight ball, and that feels good as a competitor, a performer, where you can be in the ring and let them know and show them, even your friends.
Cody Rhodes On His Moment With Kevin Owens
Rhodes also commented on his special moment with Owens after the match, in which they walked to the back together. He noted that he had only done that with Seth Rollins and his brother.
“It was a really touching moment to be able to share that with him,” Cody Rhodes said. “I think I’ve only ever walked to the back with my arms [around] somebody, I think the only two people I did it with besides Kevin was Seth Rollins at WrestleMania, and then my brother, Dustin, way back when I was at AEW. So that was special, to have those three guys all share that type of moment with them.”
Rhodes is set to respond to Solo Sikoa on the September 6 episode of WWE SmackDown. WrestleZone will have coverage of WWE SmackDown as it airs on Friday.
