The Undertaker On Crown Jewel 2018: It Started Off Bad, Then It Went Off The Rails

The Undertaker was as unimpressed as the fans were at the DX vs Brother’s of Destruction match in 2018.

The Undertaker and Kane faced off against Triple H and Shawn Michaels at Crown Jewel 2018. This was a dream match for many, and one nobody expected to ever see again.

Afterward, they wished they never had.

The bout was bad. Triple H suffered an injury early on, while Kane even lost his mask during a scuffle. The Undertaker did not perform well, with the only one leaving with any dignity was Shawn Michaels, who was wrestling his first match in eight years.

The Undertaker spoke about the match on the Six Feet Under with Mark Calaway podcast (H/T to Post Wrestling for the transcription). He revealed that they managed to talk Shawn Michaels into the match, explaining how easy it would be for a big payday.

The four men didn’t even discuss the match until that night. Ultimately, that was a bad move, as it is one of the worst matches in WWE history.

“Now, we’ve talked Shawn Michaels, who said he was not ever gonna wrestle again and had no intentions of and did not want to. We’re like, ‘Dude, you can do this in your sleep. Come on. It’s you and Triple H against — I mean, how many years of ring time? We could all do this in our sleep. This is gonna be easy money.’”

“We talked Shawn into it finally. Ain’t nobody sweating it. I don’t even think we started talking about anything until intermission of that. There wasn’t any thought. Like, anybody calling anybody, hey, what do you think about this? Or what do you think about that? We just rolled up into Saudi Arabia like, man, we’re about to tear the roof off. This is gonna be awesome. Oh my gosh. It just started out bad and just completely went off of the rails.”

The Undertaker: Everybody Was Pissed About The Match

The Undertaker continued, revealing how all four men were pissed at the outcome of the match. Most of all was The Deadman, who was filming his Last Ride documentary at the time.

He called the match a “complete disaster and trainwreck”, as everybody apologized to each other for the terrible performance.

“So, well one, we’re all pissed (after the match). Everybody’s pissed. Shawn is pissed because he came out of retirement. Paul’s pissed he tore his — because he had a WrestleMania match that year and he tears his pec. Glenn (Jacobs) loses his mask, I lose my pride.”

“I’m already filming Last Ride. It’s going to be part of the documentary and I remember them coming at me, because I had to go sit by myself for a minute to process what we had just done or didn’t do and they’re coming up to me to get my thoughts on it, right? And I’m just like, ‘No. Just leave me alone. I need a minute. Just leave me alone.’ I don’t think we ever got an interview. But yeah, it was awful. Everybody was apologizing for everybody else and it was just a complete disaster and trainwreck.”
