Johnny Swinger was impressed with Chris Jericho‘s resiliency when he fought Goldberg backstage.
The two WWE legends got into an altercation backstage at a WWE show in April 2003. Chris Jericho wrote in his book that Goldberg was speaking badly about the former Undisputed Champion backstage.
Jericho claimed he confronted Goldberg, which led to the WCW legend charging him. Jericho locked in a choke hold until the pair were broken up, while many extras, like Swinger, watched.
Johnny Swinger spoke to the Great North Wrestling Podcast (H/T to Post Wrestling for the transcription) about being backstage for the fighter.
The TNA star was doing extra work for the WWE at the time. He saw the end of the altercation, when Jericho had Goldberg locked in a chokehold before being pulled apart.
Johnny Swinger on the Jericho/Goldberg fight
Johnny Swinger added that he wouldn’t want to fight either man, after seeing the backstage brawl between the two.
“I came in on the tail end of (Chris) Jericho and Goldberg going at it in the locker room.” Johnny Swinger said. “I gotta give Chris a lot of credit. He held his own. He had him cinched up in a front chancery and — I wasn’t one of ‘em — other guys had to pull ’em apart and stuff but, I certainly wouldn’t wanna face Goldberg in a shoot. Then after seeing that, Jericho either (he laughed). But, Jericho’s a Calgary guy so yeah, Stu Hart kind of stuff so he knows a lot of tricks too…”
