John Cena has given his views on how to make a character interesting.
Since moving from the WWE to Hollywood, the 16-time WWE Champion has taken on a wide variety of roles. The most notable was as Peacemaker in the movie The Suicide Squad. This was followed by a TV show named after the character, in which John Cena’s performance was widely praised.
With the wrestler retiring next year, he looks set to sink his teeth into even more Hollywood roles. However, he has his views on what keeps a character interesting as he leaves wrestling for good in 2025.
John Cena appeared on NPR’s Bullseye (H/T to WrestlingInc for the transcription) recently. The WWE legend gave his view on how to make a character interesting on screen.
He noted that vulnerability is what makes a character interesting, adding that many don’t want to look weak. He thinks that is what connects the character to the audience, making it a good character.
“The way you make any character interesting is vulnerability. A lot of characters don’t want to look weak. They’re afraid if they look weak, they won’t have the interest of the audience. You can look weak. What you need to do is connect with the person that you’re trying to communicate with. And a lot of that is the courage to be vulnerable.”
John Cena Wants To Come Back For Fast & Furious 11
John Cena hopes his character gets resurrected for the latest movie in The Fast and the Furious franchise.
He spoke with Club Shay Shay, and was asked if he would like to return for Fast 11. The former WWE Champion revealed he would love to return, simply because it is an action movie about cars.
He noted how characters have died and come back to life before, so it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to see him appear in the latest movie.
“I would be in The Fast and the Furious as long as they would have me because it’s an action movie about cars.” John Cena told Club Shay Shay. “So that franchise I’m a fan of. To be invited in is awesome. “
“But, uh, I did have a pretty big fiery wreck in the last one. I know that they have a reputation for resurrecting characters. I hope I made it. They didn’t have a funeral for me, so I’m okay. I’m okay. But I hope I made it. I hope I can do the next one.”
