Jinder Mahal: WWE Had Retired Me In A Way, They Told Me I Wasn’t An Active Wrestler

Jinder Mahal discusses the end of his time in WWE.

WWE released former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal, now known as Raj Dhesi, in April 2023. He had not been wrestling frequently prior to his release. Instead, he was managing Indus Sher.

Speaking on Talk is Jericho, Dhesi reflected on the end of his time in WWE. He recalled how the company told him that he was not an active wrestler anymore. (H/t Michael Schrute of WrestlingNewsCo)

“So the last two years, I wasn’t doing much. I was managing Indus Sher,” Dhesi said. “In a way, they had retired me. They told me I wasn’t an active wrestler anymore, which was kind of weird. I think maybe they just wanted the focus to be on Indus Sher. I don’t know, something fresh, something new which I get because I had become very stale. Creative wise, I wasn’t doing much, which is, okay, I get it. I get it. Things change. That’s how my career has always been.”

Jinder Mahal: WWE Didn’t Drop The Ball With Me

Jinder Mahal recently opened up about his time in WWE and stated that the company did not drop the ball with him.

“So I see this comment a lot and I wanna kinda share my opinion on it.” Jinder Mahal said on TikTok. “‘WWE dropped the ball on me’ – I would say that’s not true. Had a very long career, 12 years in WWE. WWE Champion, won the United States Championship at WrestleMania, made a great living, really set myself up for the future, for the rest of my life. “

“It’s given me a sense of financial independence where, now, I can just do whatever I wanna do. Freedom, flexibility, got to travel the world, build amazing relationships, a lot of good memories. And it’s gonna continue now on the independents, just doing things my way.

So WWE did not drop the ball, I had a great career, a great time, and, yeah, thank you for all the fans tuning in for all these years.”

Dhesi has hit the ground running in his post-WWE journey. He has wrestled for GCW and other companies on the independent scene. He has also captured the tag team titles in AAA.
