Bryan Danielson: I’m Very Much At Peace If I Have To Retire

Bryan Danielson is happy to retire if he loses to Swerve Strickland at All In.

The American Dragon is putting his career on the line at Wembley Stadium this weekend. The former WWE Champion’s AEW contract has already expired, and he has already planned to move to a part-time schedule going forward.

However, he has since decided that if he fails to win the AEW World Title, he will retire from wrestling for good. This would be the second time he has retired, although the circumstances are much different.

Bryan Danielson spoke with Steve Hermon on BBC Sounds, where he was asked if he is at peace with his potential retirement.

“I’m very much at peace with it. If I wasn’t at peace with it, we wouldn’t have done that.” Bryan Danielson said. “But I also think, I’ve been wrestling for 25 years at this point. To me, its now or nothing, as far as winning the AEW World Championship.”

“I came in and I said ‘I’m gonna kick people’s heads in, I’m going to win the AEW World Championship’. I’ve kicked a lot of people’s heads in, but I haven’t won a single title. Alex Marvez said ‘ I don’t know if you know this, even going back to the WWE, you haven’t won a title match in your lost 19 title matches’.”

Bryan Danielson Says His Life Is Different Compared To His 2016 Retirement

Bryan Danielson continued. He compared his current life with his life when he had to retire in 2016. He said that it is “different” compared to then, given the young family he now has.

The American Dragon is looking forward to spending more time with them, regardless of what the result of the match is.

“I’m at peace with it. My life is just different now. When I was forced to retire, I wasn’t ready. 2015 was kind of my last match but I was forced to retire in 2016. At that point I’m 35-years-old. This doesn’t feel right. I also didn’t have anything else to really put my focus and attention towards, but now I do!”

“Now I have a wonderful family that I’m really excited about spending time with. Its a very different place when its by choice, rather than by force.”
