Big E: If I Were To Be Cleared, It Would Hopefully Happen In The Next Year Or So

Big E provides the latest update on his recovery and the timeline for his potential return.

Former WWE Champion Big E has not wrestled since March 2022. He fractured his C1 and C6 vertebrae on a botched suplex by Ridge Holland. In recent months, he has transitioned into a role as a host/panelist at WWE premium live events.

In an interview with Carlo Perruzza, Big E was asked about possibly returning to the ring. He noted that his neck is not “ossifying”, so he was not in a position to be cleared to compete. He stated that if he were to get cleared, it would hopefully happen in the next year or so. (H/t Andrew Thompson of POST Wrestling for the transcription)

“We’ll see (if I could ever wrestle again),” Big E said. “Right now, my neck is just not ossifying. It’s not turning into new bone quite yet. It is kind of healing fibrously. So it’s all connected and it’s no fear that if I were pushed too hard or if I were bumped, anything would happen. None of that.

“But I’m not really in a position right now to be cleared, medically, because of the nature of what we do is very physical and taking bumps requires you to have a rock-solid neck. So, we’ll see what the future holds. Mind you, there’s kind of a race against the clock. I’m 38. I’m no spring chicken anymore so, if I were to be cleared, hopefully it would happen within the next year or so.”

Big E On His Current Role

Big E continued and emphasized that he was grateful for what he had in life. He stated that he was having a great time in his current role, as he was having fun.

“More than anything, I’m focusing on what I do have in life and I have a great life, I have a lot of things I’m able to do right now”.” Big E said. “I went down to Cancun a couple of months ago for stem cells and we’ll see how that goes. Went to a great spot called RejuvStem in Cancun. They also have an office I believe in Guadalajara and they’re looking to expand. They were great to me, and yeah, I’m really having a great time on these Countdown shows.

“We’re doing pre-shows and post-shows for all the PLEs. I’m headed to Berlin very soon but, it’s been fun. I’ve really enjoyed this new role, this current role and if an opportunity in the ring opens up, then we’ll address that but, for right now, my focus is on the broadcasting side of things.”

WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
