Dominik Mysterio looks back on the battle for his custody.
At the 2005 WWE SummerSlam event, Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero battled in a ladder match, with the custody of Dominik Mysterio on the line. Dominik, eight years old at the time, briefly appeared in the match. In the end, Rey Mysterio emerged victorious.
On the Impaulsive podcast, Dominik looked back on his involvement in the respective ladder match.
“I knew the differences [between reality and scripted bits], but there were certain points where it was hard to find the difference,” Dominik said. “I just remember being backed up into this corner by Eddie, just him raising his hand and then my deadbeat [dad] comes out of nowhere and turns him around. They start getting into the match, and I’m so frozen. You see the ref, Charles Robinson, he pulls me from under the ring. He’s like, ‘Alright, let’s go,’ because I’m frozen. I’m like, ‘What the hell is going on, man?'”
According to Dominik, WWE officials originally wanted to hang him from the ceiling in a safety harness, instead of a briefcase. In the end, WWE opted for the briefcase, which Rey Mysterio later claimed to keep custody of Dominik.
“They wanted to hang me from a cage, not even from a cage. They wanted to just actually hang me on a on a waist [harness] thing and have me dangle there [like the Money in the Bank briefcase], but a kid,” Dominik said.
Nowadays, Dominik is a top star on WWE RAW. He is set to compete at WWE Bash In Berlin. There, he and Liv Morgan will face Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley at WWE Bash in Berlin.
