A new report provides an update on Jacob Fatu‘s injury and the WWE Tag Team Championship.
Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga won the titles on the August 2 episode of WWE SmackDown. Fatu then suffered an injury at WWE SummerSlam when he hit Cody Rhodes with a splash through the broadcast table. Fatu has been absent ever since. On the August 9 episode of WWE SmackDown, Tonga Loa was holding the other title.
Dave Meltzer discussed Jacob Fatu’s and the title situation on Wrestling Observer Radio. (H/t Ian Carey of F4WOnline.com) Meltzer noted that the champions are whichever two men that Solo Sikoa picks. This would mean that Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa could defend them until Jacob Fatu returns.
Meltzer also noted that it was unclear whether Fatu was legitimately hurt at WWE SummerSlam. Either way, WWE hopes to have him avoid Roman Reigns for the foreseeable future, as they want to keep him special. The report states that Fatu will be gone when Reigns is around until WWE decides to have them cross paths.
Furthermore, Meltzer shared his belief that WWE might want to face Reigns face Sikoa before he clashes with Fatu at some point.
WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
