Johnny Gargano On Losing The WWE Tag Team Titles: It Was The Worst Night Of My Life

DIY have some strong words about losing the WWE Tag Team Championship and facing the Street Profits.

After beating Pretty Deadly on the August 9 episode of WWE Smackdown, DIY advanced to the final of the number one contender’s tournament. They will face the Street Profits next week on Smackdown for a shot at the Bloodline’s WWE Tag Team Championships. This comes after The Bloodline dethroned DIY on the August 5 episode.

DIY spoke with Byron Saxton about the match on the Smackdown LowDown this week. Johnny Gargano began by reflecting on their loss to The Bloodline. He called it “the worst night of my life”.

He added that the pair would do whatever it took to get the titles back.

“Last Friday was supposed to be the best night of my life, but it was the worst night of my life. We lost those titles—the titles we worked our whole careers for—in my hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, in front of my wife, in front of my family, in front of my son.”

“And Byron, you should know that changes you; that makes you a different person. The Bloodline has something that belongs to us. Our names are still on the titles—that is our property. And tonight, I made a promise. I made a promise to everyone that I am going—no, we are gonna do whatever it takes to get our property back.”

Tomasso Ciampa: DIY Will Wrestle ‘Black & Gold Style’

Tommaso Ciampa jumped in to talk about DIY’s chances on Smackdown. He spoke about their history with the Street Profits, and about knowing them before they were a team in NXT.

He finished by adding that they were going to wrestle “black and gold style”, referencing DIY’s time in NXT as tag team champion.

“Byron, like you said, it’s a roller coaster—you go up, you go down, and then you start to go back up. You mentioned the Street Profits—man, we’ve known those guys for over a decade now. I knew Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford before the Street Profits were even a thing.

And this here is the first time ever, and it’s for the number one contendership for our WWE Tag Team Titles. But you know what’s the sweetest part about it all? It’s in Orlando, Florida, where the Profits and DIY made a name for ourselves in the WWE. That… that hits different.

And boys, Profits, we don’t need to tell you—you already know. Next week, let’s do our thing, black and gold style, for the first time.”
