WWE SmackDown Viewership Increases On 8/9, Demo Also Up

WWE SmackDown saw an increase in viewership on August 9.

Wrestlenomics (via Programming Insider) reports that SmackDown averaged 2.269 million viewers on Friday, which is up from last week’s episode when an average of 2.179 million viewers tuned in This marked SmackDown’s highest number since July 19.

In the 18 to 49 demographic, SmackDown drew a 0.64 rating, which is also up from last week (0.60 rating in the same demographic). 

It’s important to note that several FOX channels broadcasted NFL preseason football games instead of SmackDown on Friday night.

What happened on WWE SmackDown this week?

This week’s show kicked off with a promo from Cody Rhodes. The Bloodline confronts Rhodes, but he’s saved by Kevin Owens.

Santos Escobar picked up a win over Andrade to earn the right to challenge LA Knight for the United States Championship.

Elsewhere on the show, DIY and the Street Profits won WWE Tag Team Title contender qualifying matches. They will face each other next week to determine the next challengers for The Bloodline’s titles.

The close of the show saw Roman Reigns confront Solo Sikoa and the new Bloodline. Reigns stood tall to end the show as Sikoa watched Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa get taken out from the stage.
