Matt Riddle discusses why he previously had beef with Goldberg and clears the air about it. He also expresses his interest in working with him.
Matt Riddle previously had a backstage interaction with Goldberg after he made some controversial claims about the WWE Hall of Famer. He once called Goldberg the worst wrestler in the business. He also said that he owed Undertaker an apology after their infamous match in 2019. However, they later talked it out.
Speaking with Sportskeeda WrestleBinge, Matt Riddle was asked about his beef with Goldberg.
“I’m not unhappy or dislike Goldberg, so let’s get that cleared up,” Matt Riddle said. “But like…you got Arn Anderson, guy’s a stallion in the ring…guy is good. I respect it, that’s part of this business. It’s not just hitting a Spear and hurting people, and saying you’re the man and getting booked a certain way. It’s about taking care of each other, it’s a brotherhood.
“So when I see somebody injure someone, or not do something properly, or headbutt a door and give themself a concussion and then botch everything, I’m gonna kind of bust your balls a little bit. And with the initial action between me and Goldberg, wasn’t a huge fan…but then when he had that match with [Undertaker] in Saudi, I was in NXT. I felt like I had to say something, I was compelled.”
Matt Riddle On Talking To Goldberg
Riddle then recalled how he ran into Goldberg, and they had a conversation where Goldberg took issue with him being disrespectful. He detailed how they later talked again, and that helped them see eye-to-tye more than they had before.
“I ran into him, I believe at SummerSlam…and Bill wasn’t happy about it. That day, there’s that one skit that’s caught on camera. Then we ran into each other again where we had a longer talk and he basically said I was very disrespectful by saying what I said, and I go, ‘I don’t think I was.’ Then he goes, ‘How do you figure?’ I go, ‘Because I wasn’t lying.’ He goes, ‘Well, my bank account’s huge.’ I go, ‘I bet it is. I don’t think I’ll ever have a bank account the size of Bill Goldberg’s. But I know nobody’s ever gonna go back in time to see that superstar match, that wrestling classic of Bill Goldberg’s. They might go back and watch a compilation of Spears and Jackhammers, but no one’s going back to watch that 15-minute barn burner with Bill.’ He wasn’t happy with that either.”
“We didn’t talk for a while, but then we reconnected on a trip to Saudi, he was wrestling there. And we talked on the airplane on the ride home after a couple of Bloody Mary’s…I wouldn’t say we’re best friends, but I think we see eye-to-eye on a lot of things now, and our relationship’s not that bad.”
Matt Riddle Would Love To Face Goldberg
Riddle was then asked about a potential future match with Goldberg. He expressed his interest in the possibility.
“I would love that,” he said. “I know I’m affordable, I don’t know how much Bill costs…but yeah, I’m always up for anything, and I think we would have a great match.”
