WWE Debuts Referee Cam At WWE SummerSlam

WWE implemented a new production element at WWE SummerSlam, as the company introduced the Referee Cam at the premium live event.

Much like its name suggests, the Referee Cam is a small camera positioned on the referee’s ear, that allows fans to see the match from their perspective. The camera debuted during Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley’s match at SummerSlam, which saw Morgan defeat Ripley to retain her title, thanks to some help from Dominik Mysterio.

It’s unclear how often the WWE will use the camera going forward, or if it will be a staple at future events or shows. This isn’t the first time that professional wrestling companies have tinkered with the idea. Various other promotions utilizing a form of “referee POV” dating back decades. WCW previously used a ref cam, named “Refer-Eye cam” in the early 1990s. WWE had reportedly discussed bringing it back, according to a recent report from Fightful Select .
