Michael Cole is set to stay with WWE for the foreseeable future.
Cole has been with WWE since 1997, and he has been the voice of the company’s programming for years.
Bryan Curtis of The Ringer spoke with Michael Cole ahead of WWE SummerSlam, and he wrote that Cole signed a new contract this spring.
“This spring, Cole signed a new contract that will keep him as the voice of WWE for the foreseeable future,” Curtis wrote.
In the interview, Cole commented on the freedom he has enjoyed since Triple H took over as the head of creative. He highlighted how fans were now seeing his true personality.
“The first 24 years, Michael Cole was out here,” he said. “I was playing a broadcaster. The last three years, Sean Coulthard, … that’s who you’re seeing.
“That personality I’m bringing out now is who I really am,” he said. “I’m bombastic, I’m sarcastic. I’m a prick. But I’m also a hell of a good broadcaster.”
Vic Joseph: Michael Cole Is The Greatest
NXT’s Vic Joseph previously praised Michael Cole. Speaking with Scott Fishman for TV Insider, Joseph called Cole the greatest of all time. He also commented on learning from him.
“Michael Cole is the greatest of all time. I’ll say it again. He is the greatest of all time. I’ve learned so much from him.
“But if you’re the greatest of all time why would you not want to pick a few things from them? There is no quarterback in the world that’s not looking at Tom Brady’s mechanics or Patrick Mahomes’ footwork. If you don’t study people who are the greatest, I think it’s foolish if you don’t. I will take as much as I can from Michael Cole and Corey Graves, for that matter, and mold it into my own. Then hopefully get to their level.”
