CM Punk says being the top draw in two companies is pretty wild.
At AEW All In, CM Punk got into a backstage altercation with Jack Perry. Punk’s contract was ultimately terminated, and Perry was suspended. AEW later fired the footage of the incident on the April 10 episode of AEW Dynamite.
Speaking on the SI Media podcast with Jimmy Traina, CM Punk was asked whether AEW airing the All In footage irritated him.
“[Laughs] It’s kind of like, I have to wrestle Drew McIntyre, right, and this is just this garbage person that I don’t want in my life,” CM Punk said. “But this is the fight game. It’s the sh*t talk business. It’s just like fighting in the UFC. You see these guys ripping at each other, ugly press conferences, getting personal. I don’t necessarily enjoy that energy.”
Punk then noted that AEW airing the footage was not going to help them or hurt him. He also stated that being the top draw in two companies was wild.
“But the payoff is, I get to go in a ring, and I get to blacken eyes and chip teeth and make Drew sob or do whatever else in my head that I hope to do to him. So it’s just, it felt really ugly, but then I was like, showing that footage isn’t gonna help them or hurt me. So I was just like whatever. Being the top draw in two different companies is pretty wild. Thanks guys.”
