Shane McMahon issued a statement about meeting with AEW’s Tony Khan.
On July 31, Fightful (via Fightful Select) and WrestleTalk reported that Shane McMahon met with Tony Khan to discuss possibilities moving forward. A picture of Khan and McMahon also made the rounds online.
WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray then said that he had a statement that Shane McMahon gave him. He read it on Wednesday’s episode of Busted Open After Dark. (H/t Jeremy Lambert of Fightful for the transcription)
The statement is as follows:
“Tony and I were connected through a mutual friend and we had a great meeting. We talked about many things, but mostly about our shared love for the business and the rewards and challenges of working with family. I congratulated him on the five year anniversary of AEW and look forward to how he evolves the business moving forward.”
In addition to reading the statement, Bully Ray said that Shane McMahon prefers to play matters close. At least for now, fans will have to stay tuned to see how this situation continues to unfold.
Tony Khan previously said that Shane McMahon was always welcome in AEW. Check out his comments here.
WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
