Bret Hart Thinks Getting Involved In AEW’s Owen Hart Cup Might Ruffle WWE’s Feathers

Bret Hart comments on potentially getting involved in AEW’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.

WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart unveiled the AEW World Championship at AEW Double or Nothing 2019. In 2022, AEW began holding the Owen Hart Foundation Memorial Tournament in honor of Bret’s late brother Owen Hart, who passed away in 1999. Martha Hart has been involved with the tournament, as she has appeared on AEW programming, but Bret Hart has not.

During a Signed By Superstars virtual signing, Bret was asked whether Tony Khan had ever asked him to get involved with the tournament. (H/t Andrew Thompson of POST Wrestling for the transcription)

“Nope. He’s never asked me… I’d have to think about it,” Hart said. “I like Tony, and I’d be happy to help out, but I don’t know if I’d wanna go down — I think it might ruffle WWE’s feathers, and I get all my — everything tied in through them. But, then again, it can’t hurt to ask.”

Bryan Danielson spoke highly of Martha Hart after he won the 2024 Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament. Check out his comments here.
