Cody Rhodes Says His WWE Return Doesn’t Happen Without Help Of Conrad Thompson

Cody Rhodes gives props to Conrad Thompson.

In April 2022, Cody Rhodes returned to WWE with the aim of “finishing the story” and capturing the WWE Championship. Two years later, Rhodes did just that as he dethroned Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns on night two of WrestleMania 40. Rhodes recently sat down with WWE Hall of Famer DDP to reflect on his return to WWE – something he credits to wrestling promoter and podcaster Conrad Thompson.

“Years from now when people start doing shoot interviews and books on contracts and narratives and things, they might realize Conrad was connected to a lot of important people,” Rhodes said. “It’s no secret, I’ve said this before, but the return to WWE does not happen without Conrad. He was genuinely just curious, ‘Hey, just curious, are you really up? Is your contract really up?’ Because every wrestler that says their contract is up is typically lying. I’ve been there before, but this one was sincere and that sincerity led to where we would end up. So yeah, big, big kudos to Conrad.”

Rhodes Had A Back-Up Plan

In addition to helping Rhodes forge a path to WWE, Thompson also helped Rhodes, and The Young Bucks, in organizing the original All In event in 2018. Should Rhodes’ return to WWE have failed to elicit the results he set out for, Rhodes admitted that his back-up plan involved hosting a podcast with Thompson.

“I’m always curious, my fallback was if WWE rejected me, in terms of the fans, I knew I could come back to WWE, but if it didn’t work on the level I wanted it to work, my fallback was to do a podcast with Conrad called ‘The All In.’ That was what we were going to do, ‘The All In,’ because he had helped me with the original All In,” Rhodes said.
