Tensions rose between World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest and Gunther on WWE RAW.
Priest came to the ring on the July 15th episode of WWE RAW and called out Gunther, his opponent at WWE SummerSlam. Gunther came out and criticized Priest’s title reign, saying that it had been “nothing” so far. He said that he wanted to take the weight off of Priest’s shoulders, so he told Priest to give him the title. Priest refused and noted that he had fought on the streets for 20 years to earn the title. He also said that if being in WWE was not Gunther’s dream, they didn’t need him.
Gunther went on to call Priest street trash, and he detailed how they could not be any more different, as he had a different upbringing. Gunther noted that WWE called him and begged him to join the company, and that now put him in the position to have to restore glory to the World Heavyweight Championship.
Priest fired back by saying that Gunther couldn’t see what was coming right at hm, and he said that Gunther had no heart. Priest then said that at SummerSlam, maybe they would find out whether Gunther was more than a “boring, conceited, privileged scumbag.”
After the confrontation, Priest defeated Braun Strowman, and he stood tall following a brief brawl with Gunther.
