Mayu Iwatani Appears Via Video At Ice Ribbon Event, IWGP Women’s Title Match Set

IWGP Women’s Champion Mayu Iwatani surprised the Ice Ribbon audience by appearing on the video screen to challenge Tsukasa Fujimoto.

Ice Ribbon held a show in Saitama SKIP City Multipurpose Hall on June 9th. Per Weekly Pro Wrestling Mobile, STARDOM‘s Mayu Iwatani greeted Tsukasa Fujimoto from the titantron after the latter’s ICE×∞ League match at the show. The IWGP Women’s Champion reiterated that she will accept challenges from anyone at any time. Tsukasa previously mentioned wanting to challenge for the title in an Ice Ribbon ring, so she willingly accepted Mayu’s challenge under that condition.

Mayu Iwatani and Tsukasa Fujimoto will now compete for the IWGP Women’s Title at Ice Ribbon’s upcoming Korakuen Hall show on June 23rd. Tsukasa expressed her gratitude over the opportunity to compete for the belt inside an Ice Ribbon ring.

“IWGP Women’s Championship. I never thought I would be able to do this at Ice Ribbon. I’m sure many people discussed it before giving permission. Thank you from the bottom of my heart,” she wrote.

STARDOM and Ice Ribbon have had quite the history as rival companies in the Joshi wrestling scene. Mayu Iwatani and Tsukasa Fujimoto’s upcoming match will also mark the first time that the IWGP Women’s Champion will defend the title outside NJPW and STARDOM.

WrestleZone will provide more updates on the matchup as more details become publicly available.
