Mercedes Moné‘s opponent at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door has been confirmed.
On the May 29 episode of AEW Dynamite, Mercedes Moné defeated Skye Blue to retain the TBS Championship. After the match, NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer came to the stage and stared Mercedes down.
During the June 5 episode of AEW Dynamite, a video package confirmed that Mercedes Moné would face Stephanie Vaquer in a Title for Title match at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.
Moné previously competed for the NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship when the inaugural champion was crowned at NJPW Resurgence 2023. Moné defeated Vaquer but lost to Willow Nightingale in the tournament finals. In the match, Mercedes suffered an injury that sidelined her for the next several months. She returned to the ring at AEW Double or Nothing, where she won the TBS Championship by defeating Willow Nightingale.
Vaquer later won the NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship by defeating Giulia.
