Saweetie was a big surprise when she turned up in the Sukeban promotion last week.

The Japanese women’s pro-wrestling league has been touring the US in recent weeks. After stops in New York and Miami, over 2000 fans turned out to see the show at The Trinity in Los Angeles.

This was Sukeban’s third-ever show and is a strong start to their early days as a Japanese, United States-based promotion.

The show featured a five-match card, including some of the top female wrestlers from Japan. The matches taking place in Sukeban Los Angeles were:

  • The Vandals (Midnight Player and Otaku-chan, with BINGO) vs Supersonic and Stray Cat
  • Sareee Bomb vs Maya Mamushi
  • The Harajuku Stars (Saki Bimi and Babyface, accompanied by Saweetie) vs Dangerous Liaisons (Queen of Hearts and KONAMI)
  • Lady Antoinette vs Atomic Banshee
  • Commander Nakajima vs Crush Yuu to retain her Sukeban World Championship

However, one of the most notable parts of the event took place during Harajuku Stars entrances. American rapper and singer Saweetie accompanied the duo to the ring, as her new single “NANi” blared through the speakers for the live crowd to enjoy.

She left ringside before the match took place, going backstage to enjoy the rest of the event.

Some of the other names in attendance included Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead, Invincible) and Norman Reedus, producer Diplo, and Josh Barnett. Sukeban also shared that Rowan Blanchard, Greta Lee, Scout Willis, and China Chow, musicians Dev Hynes, Caroline Polachek and Kilo Kish, curator Jeffrey Deitch, Drag Queen Rock M Sakura (RuPaul’s Drag Race) were present.
