Shawn Michaels discusses adding a second title to NXT‘s women’s division.
At NXT Battleground, the inaugural NXT Women’s North American Champion will be crowned in a ladder match. Qualifying matches have been held on NXT in recent weeks.
Speaking on The Mark Hoke Show, Shawn Michaels was asked about the creation of the NXT Women’s North American Championship and what brought that about. He highlighted the depth of the division.
“From my standpoint, and obviously I am biased, I would never lie about that, but the depth of our women’s division here in NXT is so unbelievable,” Shawn Michaels said. “What I’m very proud of is we have so many storylines going with a multitude of, not just our women, our men, we have them up and down our show. But our roster is so stacked on the female side, it just seems like the right thing to do. Again, we’ve got a North American Men’s Championship. Ought to have the North American Women’s [Championship] on the other side.”
Shawn Michaels: It Was A Decision That Needed To Be Made
Shawn Michaels continued by reiterating that the NXT women’s division has the depth to handle a second title. He stated that it was a decision that needed to be made. Michaels also looked forward to NXT Battleground.
“Again, this is certainly a division that can easily handle it,” he said. “So look, it was one of those things that you see the writing on the wall. I don’t want to oversimplify it because it’s not the easiest thing in the world, coming up with a two-hour, 52-week-a-year live wrestling show every week. But I know what I like as a fan. I know that the NXT Women’s Division is unbelievably stacked, and they can easily handle a Women’s North American Champion Title. So it was a decision that needed to be made, we made it, and looking forward to crowning that inaugural champion on June 9.”
