Gunther is headed to the finals of WWE’s King of the Ring Tournament, after a surprisingly close victory over Jey Uso.
During Monday’s episode of WWE RAW, Gunther and Uso met in the semifinals of the tournament. Gunther controlled portions of the match by targeting Uso’s arm, but “Main Event” Jey battled back late, surviving power bombs, clotheslines, and more. In the end, though, it was an inadvertently hurt referee that decided the match.
Toward the end of the match, Gunther was arguing with the referee while delivering big chops to Uso. In the process, he accidentally hit the official with one, causing him to drop down in a daze. Uso capitalized on the moment by hitting a big kick before landing a splash onto Gunther. Unfortunately, the referee was too slow to get up, and Gunther kicked out after a lengthy time down.
When Gunther got back up, he made short work of Uso, trapping him in a Gojira Clutch that Uso couldn’t get out of, forcing the referee to stop the match. Gunther will now face off against either Randy Orton or Tama Tonga in the finals of the tournament this Saturday. The other semi-final match will be held on the May 24 episode of WWE SmackDown.
