Splitting up with his father was the best thing that could have happened for Dominik Mysterio, according to Rey Mysterio.
Early in his WWE career, Dominik Mysterio teamed up with his dad, Rey Mysterio. They won the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship together. Dominik later turned on Rey and joined the Judgment Day, and he has continued to reach new heights ever since.
Speaking on the JAXXON PODCAST, Rey Mysterio discussed Dominik Mysterio’s success. He noted that their team splitting up was the best thing that could have happened for him. (H/t Joseph Currier of F4WOnline.com for the transcription)
“For my son to come in out of nowhere and not have my style, have a different build. He’s 6’1. He’s about 190 [lbs]. So it was very hard for him at the beginning to try to adapt and find his role as a wrestler,” Rey Mysterio said. “The comparisons — they were made. And of course, he couldn’t live up to them. Not until we separated and he continued on his own path without having his dad by his side. And that was the best thing that could have ever happened to him.”
Rey Mysterio Is Proud Of Dominik Mysterio
Rey Mysterio went on to emphasize that he was proud of Dominik’s success and noted that it has come very quickly.
“In the past three years, he’s had the success that I never had in three years breaking in the business,” Rey said. “I mean, times are different. But as a father you could only imagine how proud I am. Incredible.”
