AEW Dynamite Results (5/15/24): Swerve Strickland Takes On Brian Cage

AEW Dynamite Results – May 15, 2024

This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite kicks off with tag team action as Jon Moxley teams up with Bryan Danielson to take on Kyle Fletcher and Jeff Cobb. Moxley is jumped before getting to the ring by Cobb and Fletcher, and Danielson rushes out to even the odds. The four men brawl to Danielson’s entrance theme for several minutes before the match officially begins.

  • Jon Moxley hits the Death Rider on Kyle Fletcher to score the pinfall victory for his team.

Konosuke Takeshita hits the ring to attack Moxley, while Cobb attacks Danielson. Claudio Castagnoli hits the ring with a giant crowbar to even the odds and sends the Don Callis Family running.

Adam Copeland gets a beatdown instead of an answer from Malakai Black

TNT Champion Adam Copeland tries to come to the ring but is attacked from behind on the stage by House of Black. Brody King and Buddy Matthews hold Copeland down in the ring as Malakai Black questions why Copeland tries to portray a facade of what he is. The crowd tells Black to shut the f*ck up.

Black tells Matthews to take Copeland’s wedding ring, and they rip it off his finger as King chokes him out. Kyle O’Reilly hits the ring to try and make the save. O’Reilly takes down Black and Matthews but gets laid out by King. Black recovers and hits O’Reilly with The End.

House of Black hit Copeland with a crazy triple-team move in the corner and tossed his TNT Championship back in the ring before they left the ringside area.

A video package plays from NJPW Resurgence, where The Elite attacked Eddie Kingston following his match with Gabe Kidd. The Elite are backstage and imply that Kingston is injured and Anarchy in the Arena might now be a handicap match. Kazuchika Okada calls Dax Harwood a bitch and says he’ll destroy him later tonight.

FTR are backstage and are asked what they are going to do without Eddie Kingston. Cash Wheeler says they aren’t going to forfeit, but he’s pretty sure they’ve found a fourth for Anarchy in the Arena. Dax Harwood says that based on the company Okada keeps, he’s probably The Elite’s bitch.

AEW World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks defeated Christopher Daniels and Matt Sydal in a Championship Eliminator Match

  • The Young Bucks hit Christophe Daniels with the TK Driver. Matthew Jackson scores the pinfall victory for his team.

Matthew Jackson gets on the microphone after the match and says they are trying to clean up the toxicity backstage. He then fires Christopher Daniels. The Bucks have security escort Daniels out. Jack Perry toasts to The Elite and drinks some of Ric Flair’s energy drink before pouring the rest of Tony Schiavone’s head. Schiavone calls Perry a son of a bitch.

Toni Storm, Mariah May, and Luther are backstage. Storm hypes up her matches against Harley Cameron and Serena Deeb as only she can.

Malakai Black is in his dark room, looking over and talking about Adam Copeland’s wedding ring. Malakai Black accepts Copeland’s challenge at Double or Nothing with a stipulation that when he wins, Copeland will bow the knee to the House of Black.

HOOK defeated Sebastian Wolfe

  • HOOK locks Sebastian Wolfe in Redrum and beats him in less than a minute.

Chris Jericho is called out by HOOK

After the match, HOOK gets on the microphone and says that’s not what he’s here for and calls out FTW Champion Chris Jericho. Jericho and Big Bill come to the ring. Jericho says it’s great to have HOOK back, and he hopes he learned his lesson. He’s glad he called him out so he can share the spotlight.

HOOK says Jericho can have all the spotlight when he faces him for the FTW Championship tonight. Jericho says it’s not a fighting moment; it’s a teaching moment. Jericho says the world doesn’t revolve around HOOK. The crowd tells Jericho to retire, and Jericho says when he does, he’ll be put in every Hall of Fame there is.

Jericho says HOOK needs to work his way back up to the FTW Championship and tells him he has a match at Collision. If he wins, he might get a shot at the title. HOOK attacks Jericho and it quickly turns into a two-on-one beatdown. Katsuyori Shibata hits the ring to even the odds, and Jericho and Bill quickly get out of the ring, but not before Shibata gets a few shots in on Big Bill.

AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland is backstage. Swerve Strickland says he brought a championship back to Washington. Strickland says he might have been put in a coffin at All In, but he’s going to put Christian Cage in the grave. Strickland says he’s going to end things with Brian Cage tonight.

  • Swerve Strickland hits Brian Cage with the Housecall to score the pinfall victory.

Christian Cage remains one step ahead of Swerve Strickland on AEW Dynamite

Swerve Strickland continues to attack Brian Cage with a steel chair after the match. Christian Cage comes out with Mother Wayne on the stage as a distraction so Nick Wayne can low-blow Strickland from behind as he and Killswitch beat down Swerve. Wayne breaks a picture frame of Strickland’s family over his head and busts him open.

Christian Cage finally comes to the ring and tells Strickland he embarrassed his son Nick Wayne last year and now has to embarrass Swerve. Cage smears Swerve’s blood all over the picture of his family. Cage says he took Strickland’s blood tonight and next Sunday he’ll take his championship.

HOOK and Katsuyori Shibata are backstage. HOOK says the odds don’t mean anything to him, and he will beat whoever he has to beat to get his hands on Jericho. Shibata asks if that even means him because he wants another shot at Jericho, too.

HOOK says that’s fine by him. Samoa Joe shows up and says he used to think HOOK was something special, but now he keeps falling for Jericho’s tricks over and over again. Joe says if they stop playing themselves, they actually might be dangerous. HOOK says he’ll fight Joe as Shibta quips that Joe is too large to be wearing a floral pattern.

AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm defeated Harley Cameron in a Grudge Match

  • Serena Deeb comes out on the stage to watch the match up close. Toni Storm hits Harley Cameron with Storm Zero to score the pinfall victory.

Will Ospreay warns Roderick Strong ahead of Double or Nothing

Will Ospreay and the Undisputed Kingdom are backstage. Ospreay hates that Roderick Strong is this comfortable around him with the title and questions whether it’s because of the numbers game or that he retired the Tiger Driver ’91.

Ospreay says he has no respect for Strong because he’s never had any for him. Roderick Strong says that’s the smartest thing he’s ever said because Ospreay is a child, and he always will be. Strong says he’s worked for everything he’s ever gotten, and he’s going to end things at Double or Nothing. Ospreay says he’s going to humble Strong and Double or Nothing and pay him back for everything he’s done with him in the past.

This contract signing got physical

Renee Paquette hosts a contract signing in the ring for Double or Nothing and brings out Mercedes Moné and TBS Champion Willow Nightingale. Nightingale says she does respect Mercedes and everything she’s done in her career but she needs to know if she respects the TBS Championship. Nightingale explains why the title means so much to her and says she’s not going to let Mercedes walk right into the company and take that away from her. Willow signs the contract and pushes it toward Mercedes.

Mercedes Moné asks if Nightingale wants to talk about legacy with her. Moné says back in 2015, while Nightingale was still training, she was changing the game forever. Moné says Nightingale wouldn’t be here without her and that she respects her but there’s a difference between being great and the greatest of all time.

Mercedes Moné says you should be looking at the new face of TBS, and she knows the best part of Nightingale’s career was beating her, but her losing will be the best thing to ever happen to her. Moné signs the contract as well.

Nightingale reminds Moné that the last time they wrestled, she walked away a champion, and she didn’t walk out at all. Moné slaps Nightingale across the face. Moné tries to hit Nightingale with the TBS Title, but Nightingale ducks and powerbombs Mercedes through the table.

Kazuchika Okada defeated Dax Harwood to retain the AEW Continental Championship

  • Kazuchika Okada hits Dax Harwood with the Rainmaker after a low blow behind the referee’s back to score the pinfall victory.

The Elite attacks Harwood after the match. Bryan Danielson and Cash Wheeler hit the ring to try and try to assist, but they are outnumbered. Darby Allin returns to even the odds as AEW Dynamite goes off the air.
