Anthony Henry Says JD Drake Was Supposed To Sign With WWE Alongside Him In 2021

Anthony Henry says the journey could have been different, but the destination is the same.

On April 1st, AEW released a handful of wrestlers. A couple of the names that were in that unfortunate list were the Workhorsemen Anthony Henry and JD Drake. Things turned out much better later in the week as Henry was rehired by AEW, as Tony Khan said Henry will be back once cleared.

Recently, one-half of the Workhorsemen shared that he and his tag team partner were actually supposed to sign with All Elite Wrestling’s biggest rival company, WWE.

Anthony Henry took to Twitter to share that he and his tag team partner, JD Drake, were initially going to sign with WWE together, but that did not come to fruition. Henry ended up in WWE by himself in 2021, taking on the name “Asher Hale” on the NXT brand.

Asher Hale signed in January 2021 and debuted on TV in May, but his run ended abruptly after he was released that August.

Henry also believed that even if the duo had signed with the Stamford-based promotion, they would still have ended up in AEW.

“Something not many know: @RealJDDrake was supposed to be signed, alongside myself, for WWE. Obviously, that didn’t happen. I often wonder what would have happened had that happened. I think we still would have ended up where we are, but the journey would have been different,” Anthony Henry tweeted.

Anthony Henry sent a message to his fans after he was rehired by AEW.

“What a week! Obviously, I was not happy with what happened earlier in the week. However, I am estatic about being back! I believe in the locker room at AEW and cannot wait to be back in action.

“To those who voiced their support for me this week: thank you from the bottom of my heart. I never knew that what I do impacted so many. I’ve never had anyone rally behind me like that. It is an unreal feeling. I love you all. See you soon! #punchinknockout #workhorsemen,” Anthony Henry said in a series of posts.
