Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is back in the studio doing voiceover work for the upcoming animated Disney film Moana 2.
After a few-month stint in WWE, The Rock is back in Hollywood, taking on multiple projects at the same time. One of them is the upcoming sequel Moana, one of the most popular Disney animated movies of all time.
Despite the first movie’s release in 2016, it was still the number-one streamed movie in 2023. So, it’s clear the desire for a sequel is incredibly high.
The Rock recently took to Instagram to reveal that he’s in the studio recording his lines for the upcoming movie. The Great One shared that not only is his Maui character inspired by his grandfather, “The High Chief” Peter Maivia, but also the movie’s overall significance to Polynesian culture, posting:
“Bringing MAUI back to life for MOANA 2! So much fun becoming MAUI again – a character that changed my life in many ways – including the character of MAUI being inspired by my late grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia.
The Polynesian cultural significance of the role and our story has touched families around the world and has easily become one of my truest honors to bring to life and share. New characters, new journeys, new music.
Excited for you and your families around the world to join us on this journey. You will feel the mana. #Moana2 In theaters NOVEMBER 27th,” The Rock said in a post.
The Rock’s eventual WWE return
With The Rock back in Hollywood, it’s currently known when he’ll return to WWE. But recent reports suggest that he’ll be back to face Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41 whether he’s still champion or not.
