Anita Vaughan is one of the gals.
Hailing from the city of Dublin, Anita Vaughan has emerged as a rising figure in the Irish and UK independent wrestling scene. Recently, Vaughan joined forces with fellow Irish wrestler Debbie Keitel to form the tag team fans now know as The Gals. During a recent interview with WrestleZone’s Ella Jay, Vaughan opened up her partnership with Keitel, revealing that their connection extends well beyond the ring.
As a seven-year veteran, Keitel also serves as a mentor of sorts to Vaughan, often helping to fine-tune her craft. On a personal level, though, Keitel has also reminded Vaughan to enjoy her journey, rather than focusing on any errors she may make.
“The big thing was like to enjoy the moment. When I first met [Debbie], I was so nervous. I was really unsure of myself,” Vaughan said. “Even in training, I was like, ‘Oh, I don’t know. Was that okay? Was that okay?’ Super self-conscious. So not just in like, learning from her performance-wise, but learning from her personally. She’s like, ‘It’s okay, you can mess up. It’s fine. Have fun with it.’ She was teaching me that wrestling can be fun as well.”
“From a professional standpoint, she was always someone who set the benchmark quite high in not just Irish wrestling, but like European wrestling [in general]. How you present yourself, your social media game, your promo, your image, all of this. I’ve learned a lot from her in that sense. When should you post on social media and things like that. She’s been around a long time in the scene, it’s only a good thing to learn from her.”
Vaughan Wants The Best Of The Best
Outside of her tag team affairs with Keitel, Vaughan is also eager to continue building her resume in singles competition. As such, Vaughan is on a mission to test herself against the best that the United Kingdom has to offer.
While speaking with WrestleZone, Vaughan revealed some of the names she considers to be at the very top of the UK scene right now.
“Who comes to mind immediately? You’ve got Rhio — PROGRESS and ICW Women’s Champion. You have Nina Samuels, who holds countless titles across the UK. Alex Windsor is someone I’d love to wrestle. I’ve wrestled Dani Luna, I’d love to wrestle her again. You’ve got Kanji. There’s so many.”
“The UK scene is so experienced, I suppose, even in comparison with the Irish women’s scene, that you could just take your pick. All these women are someone I’d love to wrestle and someone I could learn something from as well.”
