The longest-reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther is set to put his title on the line against Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 40 this Saturday. It is to be noted that last year, Sami Zayn teamed up with his best friend Kevin Owens to dethrone The Usos in the Main Event of WrestleMania 38 Night One. But The Ring General does not see Zayn as a threat to his championship.
Last night on Monday Night Raw, a video vignette was played of Sami Zayn training with Chad Gable. He also had a rematch against Bronson Reed. Zayn was inching close to victory, but at that very moment, The Ring General Gunther showed up dragging a knocked-out Chad Gable. Zayn rushed to the aid of Gable but ended up getting knocked out too.
On the Raw Talk following Monday Night Raw, Gunther told Jackie Redmond the he has no time for any fun and games anymore. The Ring General claimed that Sami Zayn is no match for him and that at the end of WrestleMania Saturday, he will remain the Intercontinental Champion.
“What message? The message is, fun and games are over. We are five days away from the greatest WrestleMania of all time. And the greatest Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship match of all time. What did Sami Zayn think? Ten push-ups at the Performance Center with Chad Gable last week didn’t change anything. I still stand by the points. Sami Zayn is out of my league. Sami Zayn is not able to replace me. So after WrestleMania on Saturday, I will still stand in the ring as the longest-reigning and greatest Intercontinental Heavyweight Champion of all time. And Sami Zayn will have to keep on dreaming. Thank you,” Gunther said.
