Randy Orton Reached Out To CM Punk About WWE Return Last Year

Randy Orton might have had a hand in CM Punk‘s WWE return.

The Best in the World was fired by AEW in August last year, following a bust-up with Jack Perry at Wembley Stadium. He subsequently returned to WWE at Survivor Series 2023, for the first time in nearly a decade.

Randy Orton also made his return on that show, and shared how he might have had a hand in bringing Punk back to the company. The pair reacted to their WrestleMania 27 clash on a WWE YouTube video. This match saw Orton win with a springboard RKO on Punk.

The spoke about CM Punk’s return to the WWE. Randy Orton revealed he reached out to Punk as soon as he knew he had been fired from AEW.

In the video, Orton said to Punk:

“I reached out… I forget what had happened, I might have seen something online, or whatever. Maybe I knew you were leaving and I think that minute I saw that, I reached out right away. And this was before… I don’t know if you had already talked to people, and were coming back, or what, but this would have been like last summer, or last fall, when I knew you were leaving.”

“I legitimately was like, ‘he needs to come back, he needs to come back. This is where you belong’. And I think you reiterated that fact. You were like ‘you’re right. I need to come home’. You know? And I’m glad you did”.

CM Punk then responded by saying, “I am too”

CM Punk Is Glad The Rock Is Back In WWE

CM Punk was recently interviewed by Cathy Kelley after his return to WWE in Chicago. He said he is glad The Rock’s returned, and hinted at a rerun of their 2013 feud.

“I’m glad The Rock’s back. It’s good to see that he knows his role and he’s kept his mouth shut. Anything goes here. In this new era of WWE, with me being back, I’m going to cross paths with everybody sooner or later.”
