A new report provides an update on NXT Champion Ilja Dragunov‘s future.
Ilja Dragunov has become one of NXT’s top stars, and he is heading into NXT Stand & Deliver as the reigning champion. Fans have been buzzing about a potential call-up to the main roster for Dragunov, but his future has been unclear.
Corey Brennan of Fightful (via Fightful Select) reports that, at this time, Ilja Dragunov is not planned for a callup. However, he is expected to make his way there once he loses the title, as some in NXT feel that he is beyond the brand.
Additionally, one NXT source stated that Dragunov has not been considered for NXT Europe since he fully joined NXT stateside. The report also notes that Dragunov’s trips home are not an issue, as WWE has been happy to accommodate his schedule.

Brennan also reports that the belief of several in NXT is that WWE sees Ilja Dragunov like Gunther, and they have plans to push him in a similar way to “The Ring General” once he moves to RAW or SmackDown. Overall, Dragunov has often been praised in NXT, as producers don’t need to give him much direction, and he has been said to be very easy to work with.
