Maika Challenges Former Tag Partner Megan Bayne To Title Match

World of Stardom Champion Maika called out her former tag team partner Megan Bayne for a title match at STARDOM‘s upcoming Philadelphia show.

After successfully defending her red belt at the recent Cinderella Tournament Finals against Utami Hayashishita, Maika expressed interest in defending the title in the US. It was not long before she named Megan Bayne as her challenger.

In an interview with Tokyo Sports, she further explained her choice to face her former ally. Maika says that having a match with Megan will prove why STARDOM is the best wrestling organization in the world. She previously expressed wanting to usher in a new era for the company. Thus, she adds that it will be a good opportunity for new fans to be exposed to the STARDOM product.

Megan then took to her Instagram story to respond to Maika’s challenge. “You will always be my partner, but there can only be one red belt champion,” she says. STARDOM is yet to make the match official. Momo Watanabe also laid her claim to a World of Stardom Championship match during Maika’s post-match promo.

Maika and Megan Bayne’s history

Maika and Megan Bayne joined forces for STARDOM’s Goddess Tag League Tournament. They named themselves the Divine Kingdom: a mix between Maika’s empress persona and Megan’s Greek goddess character. The duo went on to win the entire tournament, defeating the team of Suzu Suzuki and Mei Seira in the finals to earn an opportunity at the Goddess of Stardom belts. Though unsuccessful in their eventual title opportunity, the two remained allies for the remainder of Megan’s time in the company.

Megan Bayne eventually left STARDOM to return to the United States back in January earlier this year. She has been working on the independent scene since her return. However, she is expected to challenge for the title after the Philadelphia show.
