Mercedes Moné Confirmed To Have Multi-Year Deal With AEW, Update On Negotiations

A new report provides an update on Mercedes Moné’s contract with AEW.

Per Marc Raimondi of ESPN, AEW announced that Moné had signed a multiyear contract with the promotion. Additionally, Raimondi noted that Mercedes said she has fully recovered from the career-threatening foot injury that sidelined her for several months.

Mike Johnson of PWInsider then noted that both WWE and AEW had pursued Moné, and they were willing to commit to deals that totaled eight figures. This would likely make Mercedes one of the top female performers in wrestling history.

The report notes that Monè and AEW had discussions for roughly 18 months, and WWE entered the picture in the later stages, and it was noted that top executives were involved, as the company wanted her back “in the family”.

Johnson also reports that a major part of Moné’s decision was that while she thought a WWE return could have been “beneficial,” it would have been going back to where she had already been. On the other hand, Mercedes saw AEW as a place that would allow for stronger potential, both for herself and others going forward. Johnson cites sources who noted that Mercedes wanted to shake up the overall system and create opportunities to get paid more. Overall, Johnson writes that the move is also motivated by Mercedes wanting to help progress women’s wrestling.

Furthermore, Johnson writes that Mercedes saw more opportunities for her acting career in AEW, which may have been limited due to her WWE responsibilities. Johnson also notes that Monè may have the chance to build her relationship with Warner Bros. Discoery and their franchises. Likewise, it was believed that AEW would be “far more open” to Mercedes working on acting and other projects, and this was a factor in her decision as well.
