Mick Foley isn’t exactly sold on one element of WWE’s new sponsorship with PRIME Hydration.
The sports drink became the first mat sponsor in the WWE, when they signed a deal to appear in the ring in March 2024. This deal was announced by WWE United States Champion Logan Paul on Smackdown last week. Paul revealed a Prime bottle will be placed in the center of the ring.
This deal will begin at WrestleMania 40, and continue “from every PLE until now on”, according to Paul. However, this deal has not been a hit with everybody.
WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley is one man to take umbrage with the sponsorship, and has taken to social media to air his complaints.
Foley posted on Instagram with an image of his legendary Hell in a Cell match against The Undertaker at King of the Ring 1998. The image showed The Deadman staring down at Foley, who had just been slammed through the roof of the cage. Foley, as the character of Mankind, was writing in pain on the mat below.
However, this edited image showed the red-and-blue Prime bottle emblazoned on the match, adding an air of ridiculousness to the image.
The image was accompanied by the caption: “PLEASE DON’T”.
Foley is likely joking about his stance, or at least using the meme to make a lighthearted statement about the deal. Either way, it’s definitely food for thought for fans who don’t want to spoil any further iconic moments with the garish-looking graphic.
Mick Foley Is Looking To Return To The Ring For One Last Match
Foley may be extra passionate about what the WWE ring looks like because he plans to return to it in the near future.
The former WWE Champion wrestled his last bout at the 2012 Royal Rumble. However, he has plans to lose 100lbs to compete in one last deathmatch, with the goal giving him motivation to lose the weight whih will ultimately be a positive, health-wise.
Speaking on an episode of his Foley Is Pod show on AdFreeShows.com, Foley revealed his plan to get back in the ring for his 60th birthday.
“Just to put it out there, Conrad — 60 is right around the corner. I’m thinking of doing one final match for my 60th birthday. Death match,” Foley stated. “I’m not kidding. I think it would be a great incentive to drop those 100 big ones [pounds]. And I think it might be fun.”
