The first championship that The Hot Mess Chelsea Green won in WWE was the Women’s Tag Team Championship. She initially captured the title by teaming up with Sonya Deville. During the time she held on to the tag titles, her husband Matt Cardona decided to take her title to a DDT Wrestling event.
Well, it was not the actual title, but rather a replica.
While speaking on a recent episode of the Lightweights Podcast, Chelsea Green mentioned that she was worried about her WWE future as she feared that the Stamford-based promotion might have believed that Cardona took the actual WWE Women’s Tag Team Title to the show.
“Everyone thought because he was in Japan on my days off, everyone thought it was the real belt,” Chelsea Green said. “I was just waiting for someone to call me at work and ask. Thank God they did not believe it. But I was worried, I’m not going to lie, because he does stuff like that, he does crazy things.” [H/T WrestlingInc.]
Green also mentioned that she had no idea that Cardona was going to show off a replica WWE title at the DDT Wrestling Pro event.
“He didn’t ask me, he didn’t tell me, I saw him with it in Japan,” she said. “He makes videos out of all my wrestling stuff, I am the butt of all his jokes, so I really thought the WWE was going to get mad at me and I was going to have to prove, ‘Here I am, this is the belt, he’s got a different one.'”
Chelsea Green is not caught up on winning
Recently, the Hot Mess was interviewed by Chris Van Vliet on his Insight podcast. During the interview, Green mentioned that she doesn’t care as much about picking up victories but rather cares about creating moments and making sure people remember her at the end of the day.
“Sometimes I think that we’re all so caught up in winning. And I’m just not. I’ve been doing this 10 years. It’s not about winning. What’s it about? It’s about making people feel a certain way. And when I became the Hot Mess in IMPACT that’s when I realized, that’s when the light bulb like friggin flashed in my face, like oh wow, people don’t care. People don’t care that I was cool and winning. They don’t care that I won the championship.
“They care that I turn crazy, they care that I feel like their crazy best friend. I feel like their crazy ex-girlfriend. John Mayer sat in front of me at All In and said, ‘Oh my God, you remind me of a lot of people I dated.’ Like that’s the feeling I want you to feel with a character. I don’t need you to go home and be like wow, she’s a real winner,” Chelsea Green said.
