Report: Backstage Reactions To Kazuchika Okada’s AEW Re-Debut

A new report states that AEW has been happy with the beginning of Kazuchika Okada‘s time in the company.

Former NJPW star Kazuchika Okada appeared on the March 6 episode of AEW Dynamite. There, turned heel as he aligned with the Young Bucks. The trio scored a dominant win on the following episode of AEW Collision.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select) reports that AEW has been very happy with Okada’s arrival up to his point.

Sapp previously noted that the call to have Okada come in as a heel with the Young Bucks was made well in advance. The report cites sources who note that Tony Khan had the idea to “fire” Kenny Omega from The Elite as early as sometime around the holidays. This would then open a spot for Okada in the group.

Tony Khan Reportedly Believes Kazuchika Okada Can Be A Major Heel

Sapp writes that word has it that Khan has long believed that Okada could be a major heel star on American television, even before AEW launched. Per Sapp, sources claimed that Okada’s performances this past week solidified that belief, as it was considered a home run.

The report also notes that the hope is that Okada can do things differently than ever before in AEW. Khan and AEW overall were also said to be confident in Okada’s chemistry with the Bucks. Additionally, Sapp writes that AEW believed it was important to have him debut right after Sting’s retirement. In doing so, they would have another big star in a prominent spot.

Okada will be in action at AEW Dynamite: Big Business. He and the Young Bucks will face Eddie Kingston, Penta El Zero Miedo, and PAC. WrestleZone will have coverage of the show as it airs.
