Ernest ‘The Cat’ Miller Claims To Be The First Person To Ever Defeat Goldberg

One of the greatest streaks in professional wrestling was the undefeated streak of Goldberg. But it turns out that he lost his very first match. The person who had defeated Goldberg on his debut was Ernest ‘The Cat’ Miller.

While speaking on the Wrestling Shoot Interviews podcast, a fan had written to the show reflecting on the first time he saw Ernest Miller wrestle in person. It was a match against WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg. The Cat revealed that the match was the first for Goldberg, and Miller defeated him as well.

“Yeah, yeah, yeah! [Ernest ‘The Cat’ Miller wrestled Bill Goldberg before his television debut.] And I beat him. They put me over on him. But the thing is, Goldberg at that time, didn’t know he was going to be Goldberg. He was just a working wrestler trying to get in and we were both friends. And he just said, ‘Hey. Hey, I don’t care who wins. I just want to get in and try to learn to have a good match.’ So, if you really want to be technical about it, I was the first person to beat Goldberg. Because I was his first match.”

“Yeah it was a house show. His first wrestling event… Exactly [Miller was the first person to wrestle Bill Goldberg in a WCW sanctioned event.] Yes. And that fan, man! That fan is… I forgot all about that. I’m gonna have to write that down and let him [Goldberg] know that The Cat whooped his ass. First person ever.”

Ernest ‘The Cat’ Miller claims nobody would have played the Goldberg gimmick as well as Bill Goldberg

While speaking in the same interview, Miller mentioned that Bill Goldberg was the right choice for that gimmick and nobody else could have done better than him.

“Man you had so many talented guys in the business. You could have picked anyone when we was there that would, could have played that spot. But I don’t think they would have played it like Goldberg did it. Goldberg did it with the image of a unbeatable, unmovable object. And he did with the attitude of a Muhammed Ali, where I know I am the greatest. And that was a good match for what they were doing when they put the rocket up under him. He were beating everybody,” Ernest ‘The Cat’ Miller said.
