A new report provides an update on what went into Sting’s last match at AEW Revolution.
Sting won his final match at AEW Revolution, as he and Darby Allin retained the AEW World Tag Team Championship against the Young Bucks.
Per Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Sting’s victory was “imperative” to Tony Khan and those involved in putting together the match. Sting was said to have disagreed, as he wished to give the rub to the Young Bucks. However, the Young Bucks, along with Khan, were firm in their belief that Sting should have emerged victorious.
Despite Sting’s initial disagreement, everyone reached the consensus that a happy ending would be best for Sting and the company itself. That’s exactly what happened, as Sting stood tall at the end of the emotional night.
Additionally, Barrasso reports that Darby Allin wanted to do the swanton off the ladder more than any other spot. AEW then took measures to make sure it was done safely. The Young Bucks were ready to call a different finish if necessary, but Allin ultimately finished the bout.
WrestleZone will have coverage of AEW Dynamite as it airs on March 6.
