Nic Nemeth discusses the possibility of facing Will Ospreay at Forbidden Door.
In three months, All Elite Wrestling will reportedly return to Arthur Ashe Stadium host its third annual Forbidden Door event in collaboration with New Japan Pro-Wrestling. One of NJPW’s newest champions is Nic Nemeth, who recently defeated David Finlay to win the IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship.
As Nemeth looks toward the future of his title reign, Monopoly Events suggested the idea of him defending the title at the upcoming AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view, particularly against Will Ospreay.
Ospreay, of course, has a storied career in NJPW, but now finds himself officially under the umbrella of AEW. With that in mind, Nemeth is certainly open to the idea of facing him at the joint event. Right now, though, Nemeth is focused on his more imminent challengers, such as Hiroshi Tanahashi.
“I’d never speculate that I could hold onto this [title] that long (until June), but I hope I can. I hope I hold onto for ten years straight and dominate and bring myself up a level every time I defend it, and I plan on it. First thing’s first, I wanna get in the ring with Tanahashi, one of the greatest of all time, and go, ‘I can go with this guy. Can I hang with him? Can I be in the ring with the best and somehow come out on top?’ So, I’m looking forward to that test very much so,” Nemeth said.
“But yeah, if that happens, and it works out, Ospreay can do everything you can ever imagine and a bunch of stuff you can’t imagine. I got to watch him up close [at Wrestle Kingdom 18] … Ospreay, I go, ‘Oh, he can do anything in the freakin world.’ So to have a chance to be able to defend this title and have it mean more, I think the story matters more. So, I know Ospreay’s freakin awesome, I love that. If there is some story of like I need to test myself, and at that point, I’ve gone around the world and tested myself, I go, ‘I haven’t been in the ring with you,’ maybe this is how it goes down. That would be cool as hell.”
Nemeth most recently wrestled at NJPW’s The New Beginning In Sapporo show on February 24, where he and Ryusuke Taguchi defeated the BULLET CLUB War Dogs (David Finlay & Gedo).
