Michael Cole And Pat McAfee Acknowledge Sting’s Retirement On WWE RAW

WWE acknowledged AEW on WWE RAW.

On the March 4 episode of WWE RAW, WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther faced Dominik Mysterio. As the match got underway, commentator Michael Cole noted that another great champion, Sting, had retired the previous night. He thanked “The Icon” for the memories. He also congratulated the legend. Cole’s broadcast partner, Pat McAfee, said that Sting had an “absolutely epic” match on Sunday.

WWE Hall of Famer Sting competed in his last match at AEW Revolution. He and Darby Allin defended the AEW World Tag Team Championship against The Young Bucks. Sting’s legendary career spans nearly four decades, and he was one of WCW’s top stars for years. He had a brief run in WWE that has been panned by fans, as he lost to Triple H at WrestleMania 31.

Sting was forced to retire after he suffered a neck injury during a match against Seth Rollins. He came out of retirement in 2020 and had a successful resurgence in AEW. Prior to the commentary team’s mention, WWE had barely acknowledged Sting’s retirement.
